Versatile Safety Laser Scanners with modular functionality

The ROTOSCAN RS4 Safety Laser Scanners from Leuze electronic have been equipped with requirement-compliant function packages. In combination with the possible protective field ranges and the various switching outputs, a total of nearly 20 different device models are available. With individual configurations with respect to field combination and resolution, the number of possibilities reaches into the four-digit range. As a result, a custom solution can be created for nearly every application.

The ROTOSCAN RS4 device family has been expanded considerably over the past year: in addition to models that feature the MotionMonitoring function, devices with a protective field range of up to 6.25 metres are now available on the market. Leuze electronic equips its RS4 Safety Laser Scanners with various function packages, thereby giving the user the possibility of selecting and using laser scanners that are practically custom-designed for his needs. The user can choose from three function packages: Basic, Extended and MotionMonitoring. The "Basic" function package is intended for users who would like to implement danger-zone guarding; the "Extended" variant facilitates the construction of vertical point-of-operation guarding and access guarding. The "MotionMonitoring" function package, on the other hand, was developed specifically for the transportation path safeguarding of mobile systems, for example of side-tracking skates.

But the modularity of the RS4 device family goes a step further: within each function package there are various protective field ranges available in three levels, from 2.15 to 4.00 to up to 6.25 metres. For the large operating ranges, there are also device models available with integrated interfaces for the AS-i (Safety at Work) and PROFIBUS DP (Profisafe) safety bus systems. All in all, there are nearly 20 different Safety Laser Scanner models, all based on a single device platform and, thus, fully compatible with one another. This gives the user maximum flexibility and security for the future. With the intelligent ConfigPlug device plug, a new device, e.g. one with a different function package and new features, can be quickly put into operation via plug & play.

Whether hand protection, arm protection or personnel protection, the ROTOSCAN RS4 Safety Laser Scanner — certified in accordance with IEC 61508 SIL 2 and EN ISO 13849-1 Performance Level PL d — can be flexibly adapted to every situation at ranges up to 6.25 metres, thanks not least of all to the universal RS4soft PC software. This enables the simple and easy configuration of the selected safety laser scanner and function package. With this configuration and diagnostics software, the user can program up to eight, freely-selectable, independent protective and warning fields. These can be switched via control signals at any time during operation.
