greenTEG Receives Horizon 2020 Funding For the Development of a Disruptive Wearable Biosensor System

05 December 2018

The European Union’s Horizon 2020 Program is the largest research and innovation funding program ever launched to support scientific progress. Under this program, the EU granted greenTEG phase 1 funding of 50’000€ to further develop a wearable sensor solution for non-invasive and continuous measurements of core body temperature (CBT) at the wrist.

Over the last years, wearable sensor systems for fitness and health monitoring have become highly popular. However, no sensor is yet available to measure CBT non-invasively and continuously. With the Horizon 2020 funding, greenTEG will further develop its thermal sensor for non-invasive, wireless, and continuous CBT monitoring to meet size requirements for the integration of the solution into wrist-worn wearables. greenTEG’s invention relies on patented heat flux sensing technology in combination with sophisticated machine learning algorithms for accurate real-time measurements. In this project, greenTEG aims to increase the accuracy of the system to ± 0.2°C under daily-life conditions for wrist-worn applications.

Why Measuring Core Body Temperature Is Important

In addition to heart rate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, and respiration CBT is one of the most important vital parameters. Changes in CBT often indicate an on-set of health related issues like sleep disorders, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. greenTEG’s solution will be a great enabler for the necessary transformation towards a patient-centered preventive health system.

About the Project

With the phase 1 funding, greenTEG will conduct a feasibility study and a business plan for the evaluation of the technical, commercial and financial aspects for a successful market launch.
