Xsens' MTi-G selected in US DoD contract executed by ArgonST

26 August 2008

MTi-G addresses requirement for COTS low-cost alternative to tactical-grade AHRS for use in variety of (un)manned vehicles

San Diego, CA, USA / Enschede, The Netherlands (August 26th, 2008) - Leading defense contractor ArgonST recently secured a US Government contract for a new generation of reference motion trackers for use on a variety of air and ground vehicles. ArgonST selected the MTi-G GPS-aided Attitude & Heading Reference System (AHRS) from Xsens Technologies and ordered more than 100 units covering their initial requirement.

The MTi-G addresses the requirement for a low-cost, yet accurate and reliable orientation tracker with a small footprint. Historically such reference orientation data is obtained using tactical grade AHRS which cost proved prohibitive for widespread use.

The US Government contract delivers a product capable of accurate location, attitude, velocity and acceleration sensing, that provides wireless delivery of this information to test monitoring locations. This product provides a measurement capability that surpasses previous systems, operates in difficult environmental situations and significantly reduces cost.

"The MTi-G from Xsens proved very suitable for the application" says Donald Chaffee, Argon's Program Manager, "we were impressed about the accuracy and reliability of the product. We were unable to locate any other product that met our demanding specifications while allowing us to meet our cost goals. Moreover, we were very pleased with support from the Xsens team."

"We are excited about Argon selecting the MTi-G" says Gerben Groothuis, Director of Sales & Marketing of Xsens. "The MTi-G is the result of many years of development of motion trackers using MEMS inertial sensors. It proves that we can provide a performance that is almost at par with high-grade inertial sensors using e.g. Fiber Optical technology, but at a significantly lower price point."

Real-time demonstrations
Interested professionals are invited to visit Xsens' booth (#626) at ION GNSS 2008, for more news and real-time demonstrations of the Xsens products. ION GNSS 2008 will be held in Savannah, Georgia, USA from 16-19 September, 2008.
