Thirty Years Crash Barriers of Kistler

Thirty Years Crash Barriers of Kistler

20 December 2006

30 years have gone by since Kistler commissioned the first instrumented crash barrier. It has seen many thousands of crash tests and is still providing reliable measurements today. The world’s leading automobile manufacturers put their trust in measuring instrumentation from Kistler – in its accuracy, modularity and service life backed up by reliable worldwide service.

Crash measurement technology has evolved in several aspects at a fast pace since this first system was brought into operation. National and international standards have been created – for 100% frontal and offset crashes, or rear or side impact with crash trolleys. Kistler has developed the right solution for all applications and adapted it as necessary for each customer. The 30-year-old sensors are not out dated, as piezoelectric measurement remains the high tech alternative and superior to all other dynamic force measurement techniques. The only difference is that the integration of cutting edge electronics has increased convenience and reliability.

Kistler is the one and only provider of crash measurement systems who can look back on 30 years‘ experience in this very technologically demanding environment. It is not without a certain pride that we are celebrating this 30th anniversary.

Kistler Group

Kistler’s core competence is the development, production and use of sensors for measuring pressure, force, torque and acceleration. Kistler’s know-how and electronic systems can be used to prepare measuring signals for use in analyzing physical processes, controlling and optimizing industrial processes, improving product quality in manufacturing and improving performance in sports and rehabilitation.

Kistler offers a comprehensive range of sensors and systems for engine development, automotive engineering, plastics and metal processing, installation technology and biomechanics.

A worldwide sales presence in the form of 19 group companies and 30 distributors ensures customer proximity, application support on an individual level and short lead times.

With a staff of more than 800, the Kistler Group is one of the world’s leading providers of dynamic measuring instrumentation. The Kistler Group achieved turnover of 160 million Swiss Francs in the 2005 financial year.
