SPS IPC Drives 2018: Pilz brings to life safe sensor technology - automate with all your senses

25 October 2018

At this year's SPS IPC Drives in Nürnberg (27. - 29.11.2018) Pilz will focus on safe sensor technology: The automation company shows components and complete solutions for the most varied applications of sensor technology in action. It is a premiere in Nürnberg for the new light curtains PSENopt II for body protection. Innovations in drive technology Pilz Motion Control (PMC) and the new qualification as a "CECE – Certified Expert in CE Marking" are also part of the exhibition presence.

The Pilz Smart Factory brings to life safe sensor technology at the trade fair. This modular production line has been expanded again and it demonstrates Industrie 4.0 in practical use: Thanks to decentralised control intelligence, mobile service robotics, intelligent diagnostics and visualisation, and Cloud connection, various batch size 1 products can be produced – Security is included.
Safe sensor technology undertakes central tasks: From classic area and zone monitoring and safeguarding of safety gates or human-robot collaborations to new applications such a quality control diagnostics or machine operation.

With the component to the modular safety system
Intelligent and economical solutions are created when individual components are connected to form systems: In Nürnberg, Pilz presents the modular safety gate systems, individual solutions for safety gate guarding, which enable fast diagnostics also in failure cases. The dynamic pressure-sensitive safety mat PSENmat offers monitoring and control function through virtual pushbuttons in just one device. The productive area monitoring is performed by the safety laser scanner PSENscan.

Light curtains PSENopt II: New version for body protection
In Nürnberg, Pilz presents new versions of the light curtains PSENopt II. With a protected field height of up to 1500 mm, in addition to finger and hand protection, they are now suitable for body protection up to the highest safety category PL e. Thanks to their shock resistance of 50 g, PSENopt II are extremely robust with regard to shocks, vibrations and collisions. Ranges of up to 50 meters and simple diagnostics via LEDs also ensure economic monitoring of hazardous areas.

Several Pilz service robotics modules in action
With the Pilz service robotics modules, Pilz expands its robotics product portfolio considerably. Following the building block principle, users can assemble their individual service robot applications. The Pilz service robotics modules include the manipulator, the control module, the operating module and software modules based on the software framework Robot Operating System (ROS). In Nürnberg, Pilz service robotics can be seen in various applications: As a dual arm version, as a mobile version in interaction with an automated guided vehicle (AGV) and as a pick-and-place application in the Smart Factory and on a hydraulically operated "small press".

Pilz Motion Control: More performance, less costs
Innovations in Nürnberg include the new generation of Pilz Motion Control systems PMCprimo C2. Thanks to increased performance, they offer higher cycle counts and production quality. In addition to a wide number of interfaces and encoder inputs, digital inputs/outputs and an USB interface for data security ensure a high level of flexibility.
The purely digital motor feedback protocol HIPERFACE DSL is now available for the servo motors PMCtendo SZ. It uses a minimum of connection cables between the frequency converter and motor feedback system. So the servo motors PMCtendo SZ support the trend towards a single-cable solution within the drive technology. Not only do they save costs, they also occupy less space and involve less installation work.

Worldwide qualification as a CE expert
Pilz expands its training offer and from autumn, it will offer the qualification as a "CECE – Certified Expert in CE Marking". The international qualification, certified by TÜV Nord, provides the required expertise to perform CE markings on new, existing or changed machines.
