ZMDI congratulates Dr. Marco Meola, ZMDI System Engineer, for winning the best technical presentation award at the Applied Power Electronics Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina

03 July 2015

ZMD AG (ZMDI), an award-winning global semiconductor company headquartered in Dresden, Germany, and specializing in enabling energy-efficient solutions, announces another hugely successful year as an exhibitor at the 2015 Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC) in Charlotte, North Carolina. ZMDI attracted strong interest from new and existing customers, partners and the media by providing demonstrations of its new and existing power solutions and also products that will soon be released – offering visitors a chance to see the advanced ZSPM2000 and the new ZSPM1363 Dual-Phase PWM Digital Controller. The showcase included the newest members of the ZSPM15XX Family of True-Digital PWM Controllers for high-current, non-isolated DC/DC step-down point-of-load converters.

The management and employees of ZMDI congratulate Dr. Marco Meola, ZMDI Systems Engineer, who won first prize for his division for his paper presentation at this year’s APEC. The presentation and paper are entitled “Controller Scalability Methods for Digital Point-of-Load Converters.” It was written by Dr. Meola, Dr. Anthony Kelly, and Dr. Alessandro Cinti. The paper analyzed the challenges typically encountered when tuning DC-DC controllers for point-of-load supplies, in order to eliminate the need for iterative tuning, particularly when the resonant frequency of the LC filter changes. Different methods for scaling an existing controller can be used to reduce design iterations when parameters change. The paper demonstrates achieving targets for transient response performance and stable operation while preserving the bandwidth and phase margin of the original design via scaling with a programmable digital controller using the new ZSPM1363 Dual-Phase Digital Controller as an example.

ZMDI offers superior solutions for power management, sensing, battery management, automotive ASICs and industrial ASSPs. An analog mixed-signal company, ZMDI designs solutions for automotive, industrial, medical, information technology and consumer applications. With over 50 years of industry leadership, ZMDI continues to excite the market with its latest offerings in power products as demonstrated at APEC 2015.

“Understanding and reacting to the ever-evolving power market, ZMDI values the opportunity to continue to exhibit at APEC 2015, the premier power conference,” stated Ed Lam, ZMDI Vice President of Power Management and Business Development. “There is simply no better event to showcase the excellent work being done by our fantastic team in the field of power products. I would also like to congratulate our own Dr. Marco Meola for his winning presentation. Well done Marco!”
