Conductivity Sensor from IST

IST has developed a thin film conductivity sensor on a compact ceramic chip design with the purpose of measuring the concentration of ions in an electrolyte. The conductivity sensor is carrying an on/ chip platinum temperature sensor and operates with 2- and 4-electrodes configurations. The conductivity can be determined as simple as applying an AC current on the sensors two outer electrodes and measure the AC voltage drop between the two inner electrodes for the 4-electrodes configuration. The operating temperature range of the sensor is -50°C to +150°C, the measurement range is 0.1mS/cm to 200mS/cm. Furthermore, the IST conductivity sensor can be redesigned based on customer specifications. Two different cell constants are available: typical 0,435 1/cm at 1,4 mS/cm and 0,66 1/cm at 1,4 mS/cm measurements.
Temperature Compensation
Conductivity of a conductive liquid heavily depends on the temperature of the medium, and therefore it is important to have an accurate temperature sensor for compensation. The thin film conductivity sensor, developed by IST, consists of two current electrodes, two measuring electrodes and a thin film platinum temperature sensor for temperature compensation in one. The temperature sensor, used for compensation, is an integrated PT1000 with a standard DIN IEC 60751 class accuracy. The platinum RTD is applied on the conductivity sensor, directly at the point of measurement, for assured accuracy and functionality.
Applications in Water Quality
Conductivity sensors play an important role in determining water quality, and are able to measure the conductivity of most liquid solutions. The IST conductivity sensor is an ideal choice for water quality and waste water treatment applications, as well as medical and agricultural applications.
