HBM increases international presence at wind energy events

20 May 2011

HBM’s focus on providing optimum equipment for the wind power industry has been underlined recently at a number of international events.

HBM is well positioned to add benefit for all its customers, particularly in the offshore market where industry forecasts indicate that installed offshore capacity over the next decade will be at least ten times greater than in this one.

In early April, HBM exhibited at Wind Power India 2011 which was jointly organized by WISE (World Institute of Sustainable Energy) and The Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers’ Association (IWTMA).

Along with some 200 exhibitors, HBM displayed its wide range of equipment for wind power industry applications, including torque, force, and strain transducers. In addition, both electrical and optical strain gage variants, along with the MGCplus data acquisition system were all of great interest to visitors.

During the conference, Dr. André Schäfer, Product and Application Manager Wind Energy, HBM, presented a paper on “Demands for Strain, Force and Torque Measurement on Wind Turbines with Regard to Offshore Installations”. The presentation focused on tower flanges in particular and is available on the organizer’s website.

HBM also participated in the EWEA European Wind Energy Conference & Exhibition 2011 held earlier this year in Brussels, Belgium. This is Europe’s largest show with some 500 exhibitors.

During EWEA, HBM displayed an extensive range of equipment and solutions for various applications in the wind power industry. These included a poster presentation of HBM’s nCode software used for predicting the life of wind turbine components entitled “Fatigue Analysis for Optimized Structural Durability and Improved Condition-Based Maintenance” written by Dr. Andrew Halfpenny, HBM-nCode Chief Technologist.

HBM will continue highlighting its capabilities for wind energy solutions as well as component and structural testing, at future international wind energy events in Europe, Asia and North America. In addition HBM will present papers on various technical topics and applications.
