Drive Mode and Speed Sensor Module for Dual Clutch Transmission

Drive Mode and Speed Sensor Module for Dual Clutch Transmission

15 April 2010

Tyco Electronics: New legal requirements for fuel and CO2 reductions require appropriate optimizations and new concepts in the powertrain. Various automobile manufacturers developed and implemented double clutch transmissions to reach economic targets. Due to system requirements, it is necessary to detect the position of the drive mode lever and the different gear speeds joined with the two individual clutches as controlling variables.

In collaboration with a leading automobile manufacturer Tyco Electronics has developed a sensor integrated module for detecting the drive mode and the different wheel speeds.

In this specific application the sensor module is integrated and located inside the transmission. Due to the system safety requirements it is necessary to have complete redundant drive mode signals.

This sensor module is based on PLCD technology (Permanentmagnetic – Linear - Contactless-Displacement) and two hall-based speed sensors. Due to the robustness against strong environmental conditions, the possibility of large scale of integration and high linear performance of PLCD, this technology is preferred for transmission generations like automatic manual gearboxes and automatic or dual clutch / power shift transmissions.
