Kistler Supports CIRP Conference on High Performance Cutting in Zurich

20 March 2012

Switzerland, 15.03.2012, Kistler Group: The International Academy for Production Engineering (or CIRP from its French title) was founded in 1951 to encourage international scientific research into modern production and technology. CIRP focuses on cutting because this method of machining components is one of the key production processes. Scientific papers on this topic are therefore of the greatest importance to manufacturing industry.

CIRP HPC 2012 in Zurich
Different conferences revolving around cutting are organized annually. Held in 2004 for the first time, CIRP HPC has developed into the most important conference on cutting and enjoys an excellent reputation in the scientific world. From 4 to 7 June 2012 the conference will now take place at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich for the first time (www.cirphpc2012.ch). It will concentrate on:

  • Machining of metallic and non-metallic materials
  • Micromachining and precision machining
  • Mechanics and dynamics of material removal processes
  • Virtual cutting, simulation
  • Design of machines and high speed machine tool structures, drives and control loops
  • Process monitoring and strategies
  • Metrology and measurement

About 300 participants from all over the world are expected to attend this conference. Approximately 180 scientific papers on cutting will be presented. For over 40 years Kistler Instrumente AG has been supplying systems for measuring cutting forces and torques and is recognized as a manufacturer of high-quality sensor systems. This venue is a unique opportunity for Kistler to showcase its expertise to this mostly scientific audience.

As the main sponsor, Kistler wants to contribute to the success of this conference and launch the recently developed 4-component RCD Type 9170A. It will also be possible to see other Kistler measuring systems in action on the machine tools of the ETH Zurich. On 7 June, Kistler will also offer a guided tour to enable interested conference delegates to visit our production facilities in Winterthur and familiarize themselves with other applications from the world of Kistler.

In conjunction with well-known universities, three scientific publications have been submitted for presentation to the technical audience of this conference. These contributions will address measurement of micromachining forces and machining of difficult materials for aerospace applications.
