Thermal Analyses of Crushed-Rock Layers for Permafrost Protection

13 February 2019

greenTEG: Research civil engineers investigated how permafrost can be protected from global warming effects using crushed-rock layers. With greenTEG’s gSKIN® XP heat flux sensors, temperature sensors and albedometers, the thermal performance of rock layers composed of different particle sizes and paint coatings were investigated. It was found that smaller-sized particles reduced thermal transmission to the permafrost during daytime, thus yielding valuable results for the research team.
