Robust Wireless Battery-less Temperature Sensor for Industrial Applications

Robust Wireless Battery-less Temperature Sensor for Industrial Applications

13 November 2015
SENSeOR launches a new sensor for demanding monitoring applications in harsh environments and on moving or rotating parts like on rolls and mills, in compressors, in engines.

The new screw-mounting TSA TA31 is the first-to-be-launched of a sensor family dedicated to industrial applications: robust, wireless, battery-less sensors mounted in stainless steel thermowells with integral antenna, available in various sizes of screw and probe.

The sensor TSA TA31 features an Industrial Protection class IP67 and withstands high levels of vibrations, shocks and immersion in water.

It measures from -15°C to 150°C with an accuracy of +/-2°C and no need of recalibration over time thanks to a unique patented differential structure.

The dedicated transceiver HTR01-2AN – which interrogates wirelessly the sensor and computes the data – features high performance interrogation methods and new hardware design to insure a highly robust and reliable RF-link with the sensor in the most challenging environments.

The system seamlessly interfaces with existing control system in the plant thanks to various connection options: Modbus-RTU over RS485, analog output, customized interfaces if required. A Graphic User Interface and automatic system commissioning eases the implementation for the end-user. OEMs and integrators can also easily integrate the system in their own solution thanks to the system modularity.

This sensor TSA TA31 and the other thermowell-mounted sensors of “TSA TA” family are specifically designed for applications in rotation like drums, rolls, mills, or for instance in-engine monitoring.

Where no other sensors fit because of cumbersome cables or short-life batteries to exchange, these new sensors find their place quickly and easily for the most demanding monitoring applications. They can also valuably replace wired solutions to save both installation and maintenance costs, in hard-to-reach areas and for production equipment instrumentation, with minimum downtime.

They enable precise load control, condition monitoring, optimal preventive maintenance and they contribute to maximize throughput avoiding failures while using the assets to the maximum of their capacity.

About SENSeOR

SENSeOR exploits Surface Acoustic Waves (SAW) to conceive unique-patented wireless passive temperature sensors. With infinite autonomy and no maintenance required, these sensors perform advanced condition monitoring on moving or rotating parts, or can be embedded into materials. SAW sensors are low-profile, easy-to-install and very robust. Applications include in-engine temperature control, compressor monitoring, driveshaft monitoring, temperature profile in tunnel ovens or moving belts, surveillance of switchgears, transformers, disconnect switches and other electric equipment on smart grids.

Created in 2006, SENSeOR is headquartered in Sophia Antipolis (France) with offices in Besançon (France), and employs 20 people. SENSeOR is part of WIKA Group since 2012.

Its expert engineer team provides field engineering services and customized developments in addition to its standard sensor portfolio, to help its customers solve their measurement challenges.
