Colibrys expands its accelerometer product line for advanced drilling applications

29 April 2010

New accelerometer MS9001.D will be presented at Offshore Technology Conference 2010 in Houston, 3-6 May, 2010 (booth #9755).

Neuchatel, Switzerland, 27 April, 2010. Colibrys (Switzerland) Ltd. has announced today the release of the MS9001.D, a ±1g MEMS tilt sensor, to complement its existing family of MEMS accelerometers for down borehole and directional drilling applications.

MEMS accelerometers are already extensively used in many drilling applications such as MWD (Measurement While Drilling), LWD (Logging While Drilling) or HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) where reliability under harsh environment, high stability and low power are required.

According to Jean-Michel Stauffer, VP Sales & Marketing at Colibrys, “The MS9001.D is one of the missing elements in our armoury of accelerometers for drilling applications. This new ±1g product offers the best performances in term of long term stability and precision of the measurement for down borehole precise tilt measurements. With this product we are able to offer the full range of down-bore hole products for drilling applications, helping our customers to buy all its requirements from a single source. and confirming Colibrys position as a leading supplier of MEMS accelerometers for drilling applications”.

This product benefits from the specialised knowledge and applications experience of Colibrys accelerometers for drilling applications under quite harsh environments. It completes the current products portfolio of ±2g (MS8002.D and MS9002.D) and ±5g (MS9005.D) traditionally used for down borehole and directional drilling applications.

About MEMS Technology

MEMS (Micro-Electrical-Mechanical Systems) are highly miniaturized devices that integrate a number of functions including fluidics, optics, mechanics and electronics on a single silicon chip using techniques similar to traditional integrated circuit process technology. MEMS merge sensing, actuating, and computing into miniature systems that enable enhanced levels of perception, control and performance.
