CCD scanners from mini to maxi

Leuze electronic not only provides readers for logistics applications, it also offers readers for special tasks – and the variety of readers is growing, for example in the case of miniature scanners for the automation of laboratory analyses.

At Leuze electronic, bar code readers for automation in analysis technology are available both as laser-based devices (BCL series) and also with CCD sensors. In addition to reliability and performance, the manufacturer from Owen (SW Germany) also places great importance on optimum usability with respect to the mounting, setup and operation of all of its readers – because this avoids errors and saves a great deal of time. After all, zero error tolerance is essential in analysis automation.

All installed code readers need to detect the codes with absolute reliability, regardless of the technology that is used. In the case of CCD sensors, these are for example the CR 50 and CR 55 series: miniaturized, low-cost CCD scanners for reading 1D-codes. They are integrated in medical instruments. The CR 50 scanners are open modules. They are simply connected via a 12-pin connector located on the circuit board. The CR 55 devices, however, have a metal housing with optics cover and a cable connection allowing installation at any location.

On the other hand, the DCR 80 sensor is a simple scanning module for 1D and 2D-codes and has an integrated decoder. With this sensor, data is transmitted via a configurable RS 232 interface. The CR 100 scanner, however, is the "big brother" of all of the CR series. It is a self-contained CCD scanner in a robust metal housing and is used for reading rows of racks or for applications in sorters.

At the top end of the performance spectrum are the LSIS 220 readers – compact CCD scanners used for reading omnidirectional bar codes and 2D-codes as well as stacked codes such as PDF417. The LSIS 400i code readers are also high-performance devices – true-vision sensors that can be expanded to form a system and which are equipped with BLOB analysis functionality and measuring tools.
