Programmable rotary angle sensors - Vert-X 31E Series

Southborough, MA - Novotechnik U.S. introduces the Vert-X 31E Series of programmable rotary angle sensors. The sensors are touchless magnetic angle sensors with a permanent magnet that can be secured to a rotating shaft, so that there is no direct mechanical linkage between the shaft and the measuring system, and therefore no wear.

The Vert-X 31E Series is programmed through a programming device connected between the sensor and a computer’s USB port and software called EasyAdapt which runs on Windows PCs. Users can select from six default set-ups or use one as a starting point and customize it. Output characteristics including custom characteristic curve, angle range, zero point, and curve- as well as gradient-direction versus direction of rotation can be programmed.

Key specifications for Vert-X 31E include 31 mm profile, 0 to 360° measurement range, resolution to 14-bit, repeatability of 0.1° or better, and maximum hysteresis of 0.1°. Eight output options are available: 0.1 to 10 V, 0.5 to 4.5 V, 4 to 20 mA, 10 to 90% of power supply, SSI, PWM, Incremental and SPI.

The Series includes 5 and 24 V supply models. Vert-X 31E 5 V versions have a MTBF of 668 years and 24 V versions are 240 years MTBF.  All models feature an ingress protection rating of IP 68 and operating range of -40 to +85°C.

Benefits to users include reducing hardware design complexity, lower costs through stocking one part for multiple products and eliminating the need for certain other parts in some applications. These could include a microprocessor, A/D converter, memory and related decoupling capacitors. Faster time to market is possible too with a zero lead time using units to be programmed already on hand.
