AP 10 Position Indicator - Dazzling Prospects for More Efficiency

15 July 2014

Nowadays, it's impossible to imagine mechanical engineering without bus-capable position indicators from SIKO at the core of a monitored format adjustment. Their ability to indicate to the machine operator the nominal value and current value on the adjusting spindle increases the setters comfort level enormously. Retooling a production machine for a new product thus becomes child's play. At the same time, feedback about the position status to the machine control system results in increased process reliability when changing formats and also optimizes set-up times.  Incorrect settings can be prevented, avoiding waste and tool damage. In short, increased efficiency, quicker setup times.

The new AP10 Position Indicator is the first of the second generation of devices. The objective of this monitored format adjustment 2.0 is to increase user guidance even further and thereby provide optimal process reliability. An important new element of the AP10 is the inverted backlit LCD display. Backlighting ensures that the position values are still easy to read even in hard to see places or in poor ambient lighting. The LCD features a two-line, six-digit, 14-segment display. Allowing even for long adjustment paths to be represented with high display accuracy. The 14-segment display also allows a clear representation of alpha numeric characters, making it easier to configure, commission, and troubleshoot.

In addition to the direction of rotation arrows on the LCD display, the AP10 Position Indicator also provides clear visual user guidance via two two-color status LEDs. These indicate not only the positioning status (InPos or OutPos), but also show the required direction of rotation to reach the target directly. Like the previous AP04 model, the AP10 also provides loop positioning to compensate for mechanical spindle play.

The bus-capable AP10 Position Indicator is optionally available with an RS485 or a CANopen interface. The AP10 can also be integrated into different fieldbus and Ethernet networks via an additional interface converter. Particularly noteworthy are Profibus DP, Profinet IO, Ethernet / IP, EtherCAT and Powerlink.

Like all SIKO position indicators, the AP10 is also designed with a hollow shaft to make assembly to common adjustment axes a breeze. With regard to size and distance of the torque arm, attachment compatibility with the world's best-selling SIKO counter DA09S is provided. This means it is possible to change from manual hand adjustment with a mechanical position indicator to monitored format adjustment with the AP10 without changing the machine frame. Thanks to the high IP65 protection class and a hollow shaft made of stainless steel, the AP10 is also suitable for applications in the food industry, beverage production, or for the pharmaceutical industry.
