Steering Angle Correction for System 2000

Steering Angle Correction for System 2000

20 November 2006

The kinematics of an individual vehicle give rise to different measuring errors. System 2000 now has a remedy for this problem. The Type 5629A11 and 5629A12 ANI plug-in cards available as onboard electronics accessories offer analog inputs for processing signals suitable for correcting systematic measuring errors. Suitable adaptation of the coordinate transformation consequently allows conversions to be performed in real time in the signal processors.

For example, the steering angle from a measuring steering wheel can be fed in through the card to correct errors in this angle induced by the steering geometry during bend negotiation that lead to rotation of the coordinate system fixed relative to the wheel.

Errors produced by changes in other kinematic variables of the wheel, for example, the change in wheel camber during shock absorber compression, can also be measured with a suitable sensor system for feedback purposes. Other sensors, such as cable potentiomers, can be considered as an alternative to the measuring steering wheel for acquiring the steering angle.
