Heavy-duty FS series frame sensor

Heavy-duty FS series frame sensor

15 February 2007

Frame sensors used for counting metal parts are subject to extremely high mechanical stresses – falling metal parts can hit the sensor’s optical components or the connector and the sensor is often used in environments where fine drops of oil from the production process are likely to be an issue.

STM introduces the FS series, an especially robust model from the proven range of STM RLS frame sensors.

The optical elements are slightly recessed to protect them from being hit by parts falling through the frame. An optional M12 pigtail connector can be used to remove the connector from the “heavy duty” range.

The FS series has protection class IP67 and a mineral oil-impervious seal. This makes it ideal for use in harsh environments, such as counting metal parts in reject control applications.

Despite its robustness, the FS series has a resolution of up to 1 mm, which is significantly higher than that of its predecessor. The sensors function dynamically. Pulse extension setting is possible. Each variant can be operated with PNP or NPN output. For special applications, the frame sensor can be converted by the customer into a U-shaped sensor through removal of a traverse element.

Two active lengths; 80 mm and 160 mm respectively, each with a width of 40 mm, 80 mm, 120 mm or 160 mm are available.
