New precision force transducer with S-type geometry

New precision force transducer with S-type geometry

20 February 2013

High-precision measurement of compressive and tensile forces is possible with the new S2M force transducer presented by HBM. The transducer works with strain gauges (SG) and can achieve extremely accurate results, thanks to its so-called S-type geometry.

This geometry also ensures that measurement errors resulting from non-axial force application remain low. Temperature differences also have hardly any effect on the measurement results. The S2M is available with different maximum capacity ranges from 10 N to 1 kN. A new standard has been set in this class of force transducers with the accuracy class 0.02, allowing compressive and tensile forces to be measured very precisely.

The SG installed on the measuring body made of aluminum are hermetically sealed with plastic potting, allowing them to achieve the high degree of protection IP67. The transducer can therefore also be used under rough ambient conditions. The integrated mechanical protection provides an overload capacity of 1000 %. The S2M is suitable for a variety of applications. Typical application possibilities can be found in test benches and testing machines, in production monitoring and in OEM applications.
