Innovative medical sensor technology

Measurement technology expert Micro-Epsilon provides intelligent solutions for medical applications, from medical devices to dental research and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

A draw-wire sensor is used to measure linear movements with a flexible steel wire. The electromagnetically compatible mechanical design supports a measurement accuracy of up to 0.1 mm. These sensors are used for ventilation and air-conditioning technology, but also for positioning X-ray and operating tables, beds and operating chairs. Fields of application also include dependable angle measurements and surgical assistance systems control.

Dental implant abrasions are measured with confocal chromatic sensors. Here, lenses are used to separate light into individual colours (wavelengths) to be then focused perpendicular to the object. The measurement results – which are specific to the nanometre – can then be visualised and analysed.

Laser sensors are used for production of pharmaceuticals. This dynamic, wear-free, non-contact system measures the stamping depth for tablets and checks tablet thickness after coating. The sensor speed can reach up to 50 kHz and facilitates 100% quality control on the line.
