Heimann Sensor presents a new, compact and very fast infrared thermopile array with 80x64 elements

12 April 2016

Heimann Sensor is a well-known manufacturer of infrared sensors and modules. Applications include remote temperature measurement and gas detection in industrial, medical, automotive and consumer markets.

For several years, we have been developing families of infrared array sensors starting from small numbers of elements for spatial temperature measurement and extending to imaging arrays with 82x62 elements.

This spring, we are launching new thermopile arrays in TO8 housing. These arrays operate uncooled and shutterless, offer a good NETD and sensitivity.

The HTPA80x64d as the bigger brother of the 32x32d digital thermopile array possesses a resolution of 80x64 pixels. Due to the digital SPI interface, only 6 pins are needed for communication and power supply. The sensor includes a built-in EEPROM to store all calibration data and a 16-bit ADC. A frame rate of up to 20 Hz can be chosen with the full 16 bit resolution and achieves >100 Hz for a lower ADC resolution. NETD values can reach 150..300 mK depending on optics and have a potential for < 100mK. Special optics allow temperature measurements of up to 1000°C.

Lens optics optimized for fields of view of approximately 40° x 32° are integrated into the housing. In addition, further lens optics for wider (75° x 60°) and smaller (18° x 14°) fields of view are offered.

First prototypes of the new arrays are presented at the upcoming DCS show in Baltimore and the Sensor and Test show in Germany in May.
Applications include all kinds of remote temperature measurements like fever detection from distance and other medical applications, industrial process control, traffic control, home appliances, person and presence detection, security, office automation, HVAC, IoT, hot spot and fire detection.
In the months to come, the HTPA80x64d will be followed by new revisions of HTPA16x16d and HTPA8x8d in very small package sizes.
