Two custom variants of A263 series Servo Accelerometers chosen for military aircraft platform

Sherborne Sensors, a global leader in the design, development and manufacture of sensors for military, aerospace and industrial applications, has been selected by global defence, aerospace and security company BAE Systems to supply two custom variants of its A263 series Servo Accelerometers. The contract follows the decision by the Sultanate of Oman to purchase 12 Typhoon and 8 Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) aircraft.

The Hawk is currently being used to train pilots for 21 of the world’s air forces, and is one of the most successful and proven AJT aircraft in the world. Sherborne Sensors’ flight-qualified accelerometers have been ordered under a sole source of supply contract by BAE Systems, and will be used within the Health and Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS) of the Hawks. BAE Systems is to commence deliveries to the Sultanate of Oman in 2017.

“The purpose of HUMS is to increase safety and reliability while reducing operating costs by providing critical component diagnosis and prognosis,” said Mike Baker, Managing Director, Sherborne Sensors. “Our accelerometers are renowned for their precision, repeatability, and survivability and are employed across a wide range of military aircraft platforms. As a trusted supplier of flight-qualified sensors to BAE systems for more than 10 years, we are delighted to continue supporting British industry in a very high technology sector.”

Sherborne Sensors’ A260 series Servo Accelerometers have a long and successful market history. They have provision for an optional active filter with low output impedance, and 1g bias circuitry for vertical mounting to offset acceleration due to gravity. Flight qualified versions are available in ranges from ±1g to ± 20g.  The sensors deliver high resolution down to 0.05mg, and support a wide operational temperature range from –55° to + 95°C.

Sherborne Sensors can customise any of its wide range of products to conform to specific customer requirements. All Sherborne Sensors’ products are thoroughly tested and calibrated to international standards at the factory prior to shipment and are accompanied by a Guaranteed On‐Time Delivery programme.
