Robust and compact: Piezoelectric force washers in miniature format

20 February 2013

The measurement technology specialist HBM is now offering particularly flat piezoelectric force washers with the new CLP series. The new family currently consists of three types with different nominal (rated) forces: 7 kN, 26 kN and 62 kN.

With a very low construction height of just 3 mm (CLP/7kN) to 4 mm (CLP/62 kN), and the well-known rugged features, e.g. hermetic encapsulation and the resulting degree of protection IP65, these transducers can be easily integrated in a variety of installations and machines, for instance under welding tables or in the machine base, even when the available space is very limited.

The integrated cable means there is no need for connectors on the sensor; a coaxial coupling (order number 1-CCO) is available for cable extensions. All cables for piezoelectric sensors in the HBM range can be used here. Piezoelectric force sensors have a very small displacement, therefore evidencing high stiffness.

As the signal does not depend on the measuring range, the piezoelectric force washers can be designed to be oversized without any loss of sensitivity. This achieves a very high overload capacity in the application without having to accept any loss in accuracy or resolution. In addition to the piezoelectric transducers, HBM also offers a complete range of accessories, such as matching charge amplifiers and summing boxes, as well as installation aids for force washers.
